A revitalization of historic Pacific Hotel, Castaways Seafood Grille is your destination for the most seaworthy dining experience Long Beach has to offer. Set your compass for a coastal escape—a combination of local fare from the sea, styled with a swarthy nod to the past of what was once known as “Captain’s Bar”. The salty air & sea breeze are just as alive as they were back in 1914.

~OUR STORY~

Built at the turn of the Century, the once ‘Pacific Hotel’, rumored to be a house of ill-repute, housed a swimming pool, 15 rooms with shared bathrooms & it’s own restaurant. Prominently located on a stop for the Clamshell Railroad route, folks from (mainly) the Seattle area made their first trip in 1889 from Dismal Nitch through Long Beach & up to Nachotta (north peninsula). in 1925, the railway expanded further south and, coupled with the popularity of the automobile, tourists who came for the entire summer were now more transient. As a result, lodging business at the Pacific Hotel suffered, yet the tavern business flourished.

in 1950, the building was “split” in half, creating 2 separate businesses'; one side became a novelty souvenir shop that specialized in “renting” clam guns, and the tavern was purchased and ran by the infamous, Mary Lou. Noted for her fishnet stockings, raspy voice & cigarette smoking, Mary Lou would welcome customers with a “what-can-i get-cha”?

In the 80’s Phil Norman purchased the business from Mary Lou & rivaled his brother, Hal Norman, who purchased the souvenir side of the building, naming it, “Stormin’ Normans”. The two brothers would scuffle until both sold to newcomers, Chris Summerer & Russell Maize.

Stormin’ Norman’s renovation took place in early 2001 followed by Mary Lou’s turned Castaways Seafood Grille in 2006, with full renovation in 2022. The vision & design was created by Weston Roberts with collaboration from Lindsea Dragomir, and construction by Jordan Martell, from concept to fruition. They refined every square inch of this remodel. Castaways is committed to offering the best from hood to coast & served in a fun & inviting atmosphere. We are happy you are here & to enjoy this journey with us.
